Honeywell Honored With T&B Enabler Award For Work With Pulp and Paper Customer
PHOENIX, Sept. 7, 2005 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) announced today that pulp and paper customer NorskeCanada has been honored with one of START magazine and IBM’s 2005 Technology and Business Awards, which recognize companies for excellence in manufacturing. For its contributions to NorskeCanada, which is one of North America’s largest integrated pulp and paper companies, Honeywell has been awarded a START and IBM Technology and Business Enabler Award.
It’s the third straight year Honeywell has been recognized with a Technology and Business award.
“Leading-edge technology alone isn’t enough to solve the problems facing companies today,” said Peggy Smedley, editorial director for START. “But when you combine that technology with expertise and creativity, those problems can be overcome. Honeywell demonstrated that with NorkseCanada.”
An independent panel of industry experts from AMR Research, ARC, Gartner, Forrester and Daratech selected this year’s Technology and Business Award winners. The winners were recognized at the T&B Awards ceremony in August at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago.
“It’s an honor to be recognized because these awards are about more than just offering good products,” said Honeywell Process Solutions President Jack Bolick. “It’s about using those good products to create innovative solutions for our customers, and Honeywell is committed to that concept.”
NorskeCanada Corp.’s Elk Falls Division is based in Campbell River, British Columbia. Using Profit(r) Controller and Profit(r) Optimizer, Honeywell developed a control strategy for the company’s thermo-mechanical pulping (TMP) operation. The Advanced TMP Solution coordinates the operation of multiple refiner lines and improves the pulp quality by controlling the pulp freeness and fiber length. Significant benefits have included reduced energy and kraft consumption.
Last year, Honeywell received a Technology and Business Enabler Award for its work with St. Mary’s Paper Ltd. of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. In 2003, the company received a Technology and Business Vision Award for its Experion(r) Process Knowledge System (PKS). START also has recognized Honeywell with the START Hot Company Award in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
“To be recognized three years in a row for these awards is a great honor,” Bolick said. “It’s a testament to our desire to lead the way for our industry by continuously developing best-in-class products and offering exceptional services.”
