HONEYWELL NAMED A FINALIST IN PLANT ENGINEERING MAGAZINE PRODUCT OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

Experion R300 Recognized for Delivering Exceptional Value to Plant Engineers

PHOENIX, Jan. 11, 2005 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has been named a finalist in Plant Engineering’s 18th annual Product of the Year competition. The magazine has recognized Honeywell’s Experion® Process Knowledge System R300 product for significantly impacting plant engineering functions at process facilities.

“Our panel of experts agreed that R300 is unique to the market and delivers value that was previously unavailable to plant engineers,” said Bob Vavra, Plant Engineering editor in chief.  It’s always a tough decision to narrow the field of finalists, but Honeywell has proven itself a worthy candidate with this product, in particular.”

Experion R300 features an innovative redesign of its automation and control platform hardware, giving operators more flexibility and control of operations.

Its open and secure architecture includes new embedded cyber security technology to prevent message flooding and denial of service attacks. R300 also features an automated backup and restore product, which no other competitor offers in its control system. This feature allows customers to recover and restore their failed nodes within a few hours as compared to days in some cases when manual back-up procedures are used.

This is significant because each hour a production line is down can cost a company as much as $25,000 an hour.

To improve system uptime, R300 also includes an integrated solution that automates complex procedures to improve operator efficiency. These enhanced procedural operations help reduce shut-down and start-up incidents by capturing and implementing best work practices.  According to an Abnormal Situation Management (ASM®) Consortium study, an average $2.5 million per year can be avoided by managing operating procedures.

“We feel privileged to be recognized by Plant Engineering as a finalist in this competition,” said Jack Bolick, Honeywell Process Solutions. “R300 is the result of much research and hard work, so it’s especially gratifying to be considered for such a prestigious honor as Product of the Year.”

Plant Engineering readers will choose winners in 16 categories as well as a grand prize winner. Awards will be presented in March 2006.
