HONEYWELL’S UNISIM SIMULATION TECHNOLOGY WINS CONTROL ENGINEERING EDITORS’ CHOICE AWARD

UniSim Design Gets High Marks for Steady-State and Dynamic Modeling Techniques

PHOENIX, Feb. 06, 2006 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has been awarded one of Control Engineering magazine’s prestigious Editors’ Choice Awards for its UniSim™ Design process simulation system. Editors chose winners based on a product’s service to the industry, technological advancement and market impact.

UniSim Design helps engineers create steady-state and dynamic models for plant design, performance monitoring, troubleshooting operational improvement, business planning and asset management.  It is part of Honeywell’s family of simulation software and engineering services designed to improve performance throughout the lifecycle of a processing plant.

“Process simulation really has advanced in recent years as the supporting technologies have further developed, and UniSim distinguished itself as an effective tool that meets customers’ design and simulation needs,” said David Greenfield, Control Engineering’s editorial director. “The system’s key strength overall is its ability to align process designs with critical business objectives.”

Specifically, Greenfield mentioned three key features of UniSim that led editors to select it as one of this year’s winners:

  • UniSim’s high-speed engine with backward calculation capabilities allows user ability to interactively make decisions by getting immediate responses to assumptions.
  • The solution supports process control and optimization, performance monitoring and business planning.
  • UniSim Design incorporates steady-state and dynamic modeling techniques. The dynamic option enables plant modeling to evaluate designs for profitability, operability and safety, and to improve existing plant operations over their lifecycle.

As a winner, UniSim Design also is eligible to win one of Control Engineering’s eight Engineers’ Choice Awards, which will be announced during National Manufacturing Week, March 21-23.  Besides UniSim Design, Honeywell also won a 2005 Editors’ Choice Award for its Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS) Release 300.

“This was a great year for Honeywell in terms of recognition for the products and services it provides for the processing industries,” said Jack Bolick, Honeywell Process Solutions president. “To receive two Editors’ Choice awards speaks to our employees’ innovative thinking. UniSim is a perfect example of that because it maximizes the value of our customers’ existing plant operations.”
