The General Purpose Computer Interface (GPCI) added to the functionality of TDC systems by serving as a high-speed interface to higher level computing resources. The GPCI provided the capability to communicate to mini-computer-based applications such as advanced control, data analysis packages and trending applications. The GPCI has provided computer access to TDC systems in thousands of locations around the world. However, control system needs change, process improvements are ongoing, and there comes a time when it makes economic sense to replace an existing control system with the improved capabilities of today’s technology.
Today, Experion™ Process Knowledge System (PKS) controllers deliver control functionality far beyond what was originally provided in TDC 2000. Experion human interface, advanced control and analysis capabilities allow you to replace your aging control solutions with today’s open standards such as OPC, ODBC and Ethernet.
To facilitate your migration to Experion, two key functions are required. At the controller level, the existing field signals must be easily and quickly moved to the new control system; and at the human interface level, the existing graphics, control and data analysis applications must be migrated (and preferably improved) when implementing the new control system.
To address our customers’ migration needs, Honeywell provides two advanced solutions—Signal Match and Control Match—that help you match your old system functionality to Experion. Signal Match is a suite of hardware assemblies and project services that enable the I/O connections of your existing TDC 2000 vintage control system to be simply and easily transferred over so that you can enjoy the many benefits of Experion. Control Match is a suite of services and tools that can translate your existing control algorithms and schemes to Experion, and allow you to take advantage of its many new capabilities. Together, these solutions not only enhance your control system’s performance, but also improve your ability to make informed business decisions.
To address the human interface component of migration to Experion, Honeywell recommends that all graphics conform to the Abnormal Situation Management® (ASM) Consortium guidelines. Honeywell can provide services to convert old, non-compliant EOS graphics to the ASM standards via the Experion HMI Web Solution Pack.
