Digital Video and CCTV: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Digital Video Manager based on open standards? Will it scale to meet our needs?
A: Honeywell Digital Video Manager uses industry-standard, open networking and PC components and software applications, taking advantage of the most cost-effective powerful components available. The solution’s Video Server is a PC running Windows. The architecture consists of a primary server with the capability to add secondary servers to a facility’s local area network to support larger CCTV needs.

Q: What are the recording options?
A: With Honeywell Digital Video Manager you can specify what types of recordings you want captured and when. Integration with other Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) applications enables sophisticated event- and alarm-activated video, permitting you to specify automatic recording when a cardholder attempts to enter an unauthorized area, when a fire alarm pull station is activated, or when an alarm is received from critical HVAC or process control equipment.

Recorded images can include not only the incident, but also what happened immediately before and after, providing you with a complete picture to enhance your investigation process and outcome.

When you choose the scheduling function, Honeywell Digital Video Manger will automatically record images for a designated camera only at the times you specify. For example, you might want to capture images for a secured area only after employees have left for the day.

A third recording option, user activation, enables an operator to capture images on demand.

Q: What about search capabilities?
A: The Microsoft SQL relational database delivers powerful search capabilities, supporting quick retrieval of specific recorded incidents based on criteria that include date/time, cameras, recording type, activating point and alarm/event type. Operators are freed from the frustrating task of fast-forwarding and rewinding to find a particular image on videotape.
