Experion R310 continues to deliver on Honeywell’s commitment to enhance safety by minimizing the impact of incidents, keep plant on-line longer and reduce the total cost of ownership.  The latest innovation features integrated safety, peer-control data interface, C300 simulation, Series C digital input module with sequence of events, embedded, batch automation, alarm shelving and others.

Safety Controller Integration
Honeywell delivers balanced approach to safety integration that brings the benefits of operational integration while maintaining critical system segregation.  Experion R310 and Safety Manager 131 features control and safety integration at the peer communication level.

In sharing critical information between Safety Manager and the Experion C300 controller, the system can provide plant-wide SIS point data, diagnostics and system information, as well as alarms and events, operator displays and sequence of event information to any Experion station located in a plant. This integration allows plants to improve production by minimizing intervention and shutdowns, and recover more easily from process upsets and reduces hardware and installation costs.

Peer Control Data Interface
The Peer Control Data Interface (PCDI) is a flexible set of C300 controller function blocks for direct communication with third party devices, such as analyzers and PLCs, using direct Modbus TCP communications over Ethernet, or conveniently multiplexing Modbus serial links over Ethernet to the C300 via a Modbus/TCP gateway.  This eliminates using Serial Interface Module hardware wiring so that end-users can use one redundant FTE network and reduce hardware and wiring costs, simplify installation and improve reliability.

Modbus Firewall
The 2-port Modbus Firewall enhances Experion security by only allowing Modbus messages and a limited rate of Ethernet management messages to pass through; all other message types are blocked. It is rated for industrial environments and mounts on a DIN rail, typically near the Modbus device and requires no configuration.

C300 Simulation Environment
The C300 simulation capability integrates with Honeywell’s UniSim to provide a simple simulation environment for operator training and checkout activities, allowing operators to gain experience before they are on the job and reduce the total time to market.  Used for strategy checkout, process simulation, or operator training, it helps reduce configuration costs, reduce total cost of ownership and offers special UniSim functionality such as fast/slow execution

Batch Manager
New embedded batch functionality supports multi-unit batch operations directly in the controller to reduce production cycle times and lower the cost to engineer applications.  With fast execution in the controller, customers can experience an up to 80% reduction in batch phase transition times. In addition, the redundant controller ensures reliability of the execution.  

Power Function Blocks
A new set of twelve high level, versatile function blocks are available n Control Builder to address specific and common functions needed by power generation processes.  These include functions such as drum level computations, group capability and run-back and main and IBV logic capabilities.  These deliver robust control and logic implementations, reduce the cost to configure with drag and drop functionality and are easy to maintain.  

Alarm Shelving
Alarm Shelving enhances Experion’s alarm subsystem to allow operators to remove meaningless alarms from their view of the alarm summary temporarily so they can effectively operate safety and reliably.  Alarms can become meaningless for many reasons, including unforeseen process conditions such as an abnormally warm or cold day, for instance.

The EEMUA guidelines for alarm systems helped shape this enhancement as the de facto “specification” for implementing operator interfaces.  The ASM Consortium also reviewed the design and implementation to assure that it met their guidelines and recommendations.
