Operator Station and Console Functions

Honeywell’s Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS) utilizes patented HMIWeb technology, a web-based architecture supporting integration of human machine interfaces (HMI), application, and business data. Employing open, industry-standard file formats and third-party authoring tool options, HMIWeb enables users to take advantage of their existing knowledge, protect valuable intellectual property, and reuse displays between systems.

This advanced interface solution combines consistent and secure access, robustness, and performance with state-of-the-art web graphics capabilities. HMIWeb technology offers the benefit of fully integrated data delivery using standard Internet technologies such as HTML and XML.

Unlike the typical “bolt-on” approach, HMIWeb technology supports secure access to process graphic displays from either the secure Experion Station environment, or directly from Microsoft Internet Explorer without functionality-reducing “exports.”

HMIWeb merges process, application, and business data seamlessly, and is the most open, secure, and user-friendly control system interface available. It enables information from multiple systems to be viewed on a single operator interface display. This not only facilitates remote operation, but supports integration of foreign data sources and the various tiers of mission-critical plant systems.

Operator Station

  • Several Experion Station node types are available. Each has powerful features for a variety of applications, and all share a common HMI utilizing HMIWeb technology. All Experion Station types can be mixed on any system to achieve the most functionally powerful and cost-effective HMI solution available.
  • Typical users of Experion Stations include: operators, maintenance engineers, managers and production controllers. Operators generally need dedicated stations, whereas maintenance engineers may only need short-term access to a station two or three times a day. Other users, such as managers and production controllers, may need read-only access to trend displays and reports.

Experion Station – Flex (ES-F)

  • Used in thousands of sites as the full-time operations platform.
  • Can be easily used in remote scenarios or accessed via Internet Explorer.
  • ”Rotary” licensing specifies a maximum number of simultaneous station connections, enabling numerous casual users to access system as needed.

Experion Station – Console (ES-C)

  • Provides direct communication to C200 process controllers, ACE nodes, and Foundation Interface Modules for data, alarms and events.
  • Consistent Interface with ES-F with no additional operator training needed.
  • No duplicate database configuration; no extra engineering effort.

Experion Station – TPS (ES-T)

  • Provides direct communication to the LCN nodes as serves as a GUS or Universal Station replacement.
  • Consistent interface with ES-F with no additional operator training needed.

Experion Station – Console Extension (ES-CE)

  • Enables connection to Console Extension Stations.
  • Users can configure operator consoles with at least one ES-C (or two for redundancy reasons) and fill out the remaining Stations with ES-CEs.

Console Functions

A combination of Stations connected to a cluster server can be grouped together to form a single workspace for an operator. A logical console can be used as a single operator interface for event handling, alarm acknowledgement, alarm silencing, display manipulation and other functions.
