Experion Backup and Restore

Today’s competitive business environment demands that your plant be on-line 24/7, and Experion Backup & Restore (EBR) provides uncompromising protection against the possibility of computer failures. EBR meets the challenge with features such as:

  • Point-in-time snapshots without any system interruption
  • Exact copy of the running state of the computer
  • Minimal user intervention to schedule and run backups
  • Demand or schedule-driven backups
  • Full or incremental backups
  • Adjustable performance throttling for minimal impact to nodes and network
  • Supports both Experion and TPS
  • Bootable restore CD/DVD with easy user interface
  • Restore to same or dissimilar computers
  • Management console for centralized system control

Why Buy Experion Backup and Restore?

  • EBR reduces server and computer restoration times by up to 80% over traditional methods
  • Because EBR creates an exact replica of the system, you can recover a failed node to an exact point-in-time, with all data and applications intact
  • As a complement to other backup mechanisms, EBR is very cost-effective
  • EBR represents best-in-class technology to keep your plant running, with full operator access during backup
  •  Where shutdowns are just not feasible, EBR is the technology that can protect your investment.

EBR Keeps the Focus on Running the Plant
Operating a plant or mill takes a sizeable investment in equipment and intellectual property.  A large portion of that intellectual investment resides in the computers used to control and monitor your processes.  In the engineering phase of your project, you can take the time to stop and back up valuable data.  However, once the control system is commissioned and running on-process, performing regular backups may be a difficult, if not impossible, task.

EBR solves this problem by providing on-line real-time backup of all Experion and TPS nodes while allowing simultaneous use of the control system by operations.  This keeps the plant running while completely securing the latest configuration data from your system.  EBR is transparent to applications, with minimal effect on the performance of the target computer or the network.  Loading can be adjusted to tune the system to your needs.  And once a base backup is made, incremental backups are even faster.

Flexible backup options range from periodically scheduled to on-demand for any computer.  Sector-by-sector backups of all computer drives copy everything – operating system, drivers, service packs, application data, even configuration information.  EBR has been specifically designed to assure complete backup of Experion and TPS nodes.

Quickly Recover Disaster Strikes
Of course, a backup system is only as good as its ability to get you back up and running after a catastrophic failure.  EBR provides rapid restore via a Recovery Disk to enable you to recreate the node and get it going in minutes.  This CD/DVD is created locally by harvesting all the drivers used by the target computer, so there’s no searching for the right components.  You can restore a node to the same computer type or to dissimilar computer hardware, such as a successor model to the computer that was backed up. Recovery times are typically less than an hour.

EBR is Simple to Set Up and Operate
EBR Manager makes it easy to set up and run the entire backup system.  Manager provides convenient EBR software installation plus backup configuration and management for all nodes from a centralized server computer. Manager is optional, since the local user interface available for each node’s backup agent may be sufficient for small systems.

EBR Manager Server manages target computer backup configurations, backup history, and recovery using the backups stored on the remote disk system, and supports one or more EBR Manager Consoles as its user interface.  Manager Console makes it easy to do a number of tasks:

  • Create a backup image of any drive for easy recovery
  • Configure a daily, weekly or monthly backup schedule
  • Restore files or folders from a backup image
  • Restore a drive from a backup image
  • Upgrade a hard drive by copying the contents of one drive to another.

Why trust your valuable process control data to anything else?  With EBR, your control system investment is well protected.
