Operating Instructions: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What can Operating Instructions do for my plant?
A: Operating Instructions helps you improve your bottom line by efficiently and clearly communicating your operating plan to plant operators. They will be automatically updated to any and all changes to the plan. A better understanding of your operating plan will help your plant run more effectively.

Q: Will changes in my operating plan be easily communicated between shifts?
A: Yes. Plant staff will see operating plans in advance. Shift personnel have full access to the complete set of plans, and can compare current operations to the plans. Operational changes are highlighted, so the incoming shift can easily determine what is going to change.

Q: How will Operating Instructions benefit my business department?
A: Plan values are systematically monitored and compared against actual values. This allows accurate assessment of plant performance. With this information, your business department will be able to determine if the plans are complete and achievable, and follow up on what could not be achieved.

Q: Will Operating Instructions work in my chemical plant?
A: Yes. The software can be used anywhere in the process industries when the operating plan consists of numerical targets and comments.

Q: How does Operating Instructions help if a user already has a planning tool?
A: Planning and scheduling tools are generally used by engineers who define the best way to operate the plant for the next day or week. Traditionally, an engineer sends the plan to the operating department when a supervisor adds additional information such as daily safety notes, additional targets not relevant in the planning process, and so on. Operating Instructions provides a standard way to hand over the plan to the operating department.

Q: What if a user is currently employing Honeywell’s Uniformance® PHD system for a process. Does Operating Instructions work with it?
A: Yes. Operating Instructions makes use of the database and software in Uniformance, and downloads numerical targets to PHD tags. The same tools are used for configuration, which provides a familiar environment for users and reduces support requirements.
