Workcenter: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Workcenter?
A: Workcenter is based on Microsoft.NET technology and provides process organizations unsurpassed visibility and secure interaction with their process and business data through a configurable Web Services framework.

Q: What is Honeywell HMIWeb Technology?
A: HMIWeb technology is a Web-based architecture supporting integration of human-machine interfaces, application and business data, and offering the benefit of fully integrated data delivery using standard Internet technologies such as HTML and XML. It merges process, application, and business data seamlessly, and is the most open, secure, and user-friendly control system interface available. HMIWeb combines consistent and secure access, robustness, and performance with state-of-the-art, open web graphics.

Q: What platforms are supported by Workcenter?
A: Supported platforms include:

  • Windows 2000 for Server and/or Client
  • Windows XP for Client
  • Windows 2003 Server (server only)
  • PHD 150, 200/201 and 202
  • Multi-Processor Servers and Multi-Server Clusters
  • Validated with Citrix and Terminal Services

Q: What does the Workcenter package include?
A: The Workcenter package includes the Workcenter HMIWeb Display Builder for easy graphics building, with access to a wide variety of data including process, production, quality and performance data, and delivers a number of powerful Web-based runtime components for trending and desktop eventing. Workcenter will work with a number of data sources: Workcenter Release 210 includes standard connectors to Uniformance PHD, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.

Q: From where can Workcenter access data?
A: Workcenter accesses data from multiple data sources such as process historians, lab data systems, and production scheduling systems—all in a common, personalized user interface with security protection. And it takes advantage of the data sources owned today, with no duplication or synchronization required.

Q: How are Web pages designed?
A: Through the use of the large selection of configurable elements embedded in Workcenter HMIWeb Builder, a graphical Web page with interactive data access can be assembled in no time. HMIWeb Builder allows process users to layout data from many connected data sources into their familiar Process Function Diagram-type graphics through the built-in shape library or importing existing image files. HMIWeb pages can display raw data directly collected from the process historian or periodic data aggregated in according to end-users’ daily business needs.

Q: Does Workcenter integrate with Experion™ PKS?
A: Workcenter integrates its business process integration expertise with the Experion PKS architecture, allowing facilities to easily manage vast amounts of process information. Process and business data can be shared across the supply chain and combined using a wide variety of user-configurable and function-rich information displays and analysis tools.
