UserAlert: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does UserAlert interface with control systems?
A: UserAlert uses OPC Data Access (DA) communications to monitor values. Any standard OPC DA 1.0 server may be monitored. It has been validated with the Experion R210 server, the TPN R651 server, and the Uniformance® R202 server.

Q: Where does UserAlert store the alert conditions to be monitored?
A: An SQL Server database manager is used for storing alert conditions (software must be provided by the user).

Q: Does UserAlert keep a log of alert activities?
A: Yes. All alert condition settings, changes of settings, trigger activities, notes added to activities, and changes to the alert enable status are archived.

Q: How is the Experion Alert Summary Display acquired?
A: When you receive UserAlert, you receive all necessary components of Experion to implement the Alert Summary Display. If you do have an Experion system, UserAlert can use a number of the components included in your normal Experion installation. In fact, the Alert Summary Display can run in the Experion Station and shows up as just another display.

Q: How does UserAlert send pages?
A: UserAlert must be connected to a phone line via a modem to implement the pager function.

Q: How does UserAlert tie into the Experion Equipment Model?
A: UserAlert actually interfaces to Alarm Configuration Manager and acquires the Experion Equipment model from Alarm Configuration Manager.

Q: Can users import existing alert configuration databases?
A: Yes. UserAlert R130 and R140 alert databases can be imported to UserAlert R200.

Q: Is there any way for experienced users to configure large numbers of alerts other than one at a time through the Explorer Client?
A: Yes. An Excel spreadsheet is provided with appropriate formatting and validation conventions to simplify this task. When completed, the spreadsheet can be imported into the UserAlert database. Error checking is provided in this phase as well.
