UniSim Design

UniSim ® Design is an intuitive and interactive process modeling offering that enables engineers to create steady-state and dynamic models for plant design, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, operational improvement, business planning and asset management. It provides users the best-in-class technologies and comprehensive features, along with Honeywell's domain expertise in process simulation and operator training.

Using industry-specific unit operation models and powerful tools to optimize operating parameters for feedstock changes, UniSim Design enables the steady-state simulation of oil and gas, refining, chemical, and other processes. Further, the user is empowered to interactively make decisions by getting immediate responses to assumptions using a high-speed engine with backward calculation capabilities.

UniSim Design’s dynamic simulation capabilities allow steady state models to be extended to transient models, allowing consistent thermodynamics and model configurations to be used for process transient analysis, controllability studies, and operator training applications. UniSim Design includes a full complement of control element models and transient analysis tools to aid in the analysis of simulation results.

UniSim Design will include two key enhancements that will be available in early 2010. 

  • A flare analyzer that enables process engineers to design, improve and optimize industrial flare systems will allow users to create more-complete models of their processes and further improve overall plant efficiency. Flare systems are integral parts of many industrial processes where proper design and analysis is required to promote safe and efficient operations. 
  • Additionally, UniSim Design will support XML-based case portability to allow users to share process design and modeling information. The new case-portability feature delivers greater flexibility by enabling Honeywell and AspenTech simulation users to access each other’s process models. This is an especially critical enhancement for companies with multiple divisions that use different simulation tools, or that employ third-party design firms.

Our UniSim Design Academic Program also allows users to reap the benefits of Honeywell’s powerful UniSim Design Process Simulation tools for non-commercial usage at no cost.

In addition, UniSim Design Suite, the total UniSim solution includes:

  • The UniSim Operations Suite, which provides highly accurate, multi-function dynamic simulation to improve operating capabilities and enhance staff skills.  
  • The UniSim Optimization Suite, which ensures responsiveness to changes in business demands through close linkages with planning, scheduling and management functions.

UniSim extends the capabilities of Honeywell’s Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS) by improving its ability to gather data throughout the plant and coupling it with process knowledge embedded in process simulation models. UniSim software is also designed to integrate with Invensys, Siemens, Yokogawa, Emerson and ABB advanced control and operator training systems.
