Advanced Formula Manager: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Advanced Formula Manager (AFM)?
A: AFM is a data calculation solution that allows users to quickly build equations, logic programs, or properties lookup tables with its extensive function library and powerful time-based historical data retrieval and manipulation capabilities.

Q:  What are some of the operational applications where Advanced Formula Manager can be used?
A: A few examples include complex engineering calculations, off-line near real-time simulations and optimizations, environmental limits, table properties lookup, monitoring triggers, iterative equation solving and statistical and quality control analysis.

Q: Can Advanced Formula Manager be used to build custom library functions?
A: Advanced users can build custom library functions using Microsoft’s Visual Basic or Visual Basic.NET in AFM designing environment. They can also share the custom functions with other corporate users.

Q: What is the maximum number of calculations that can be performed by Advanced Formula Manager?
A: With AFM, there are virtually unlimited lines of code. Maximum 999 output tags per library with an unlimited numbers of libraries. Total number of calculation libraries per server depends on hardware resources, operating system limitations and the frequency of execution. Frequency of execution can be as fast as once every second.

Q: What operating systems can Advanced Formula Manager be used with?
A: AFM can be used with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional or Server, Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, or Microsoft Windows XP Professional.

Q: What is included in the Advanced Formula Manager standard library?
A: The AFM standard library includes over 60 standard function blocks to perform arithmetic, logic, comparison, scientific mathematics, data time series aggregation, data quality conditioning and time handling functions. A majority of standard Visual Basic or Visual Basic.NET program construct and external data access functions are also supported.
