Technological Advancement and Innovative Redesign of Experion PKS Cited for Editor’s Award
PHOENIX, Jan. 17, 2006 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has received Control Engineering’s prestigious Editors’ Choice Award for its redesigned Experion® PKS R300. Control Engineering editors select winners for the Editors’ Choice Award based on strict criteria, including: service to the industry; technological advancement; and market impact.
“Experion R300 is among the most significant innovations featured in our list of winners this year,” said David Greenfield, Control Engineering’s editorial director. “It’s always a challenge to draw winners from such an exceptional pool of products and companies, but R300 stood out as a true leader in technology, design and service.”
The R300 release of Experion features an innovative redesign of its proven automation and control platform hardware. Experion’s open and secure architecture includes new embedded cyber security technology to help prevent denial of service attacks and message flooding at the control level. It also features an automated backup and restore product, which no other competitor offers in its control system. To improve system uptime and operator efficiency, the release includes an integrated solution that automates complex procedures.
Greenfield attributed Honeywell’s win to five key features, in particular:
- The automated backup-and-restore capability.
- The Series-C, optionally redundant-process input-output (I/O) family, whose vertical design delivers wiring, maintenance and cost savings, and extends to the controller and Fieldbus Interface Module.
- Embedded cyber security.
- The integrated safety manager system.
- Backward compatibility with earlier Honeywell systems.
“The vertical design of the Series C is a real breakthrough in the industry and the incorporation of security and safety measures shows that Honeywell is actively integrating top-of-mind industry issues into products today,” said Greenfield. “Backward compatibility is also a big plus as more products are coming out with limited backward compatibility due to platform choices. This shows that Honeywell is keeping industry realities front-of-mind when developing new products.”
“Being recognized with Control Engineering’s Editors’ Choice Award is tremendous honor,” said Jack Bolick, president of Honeywell Process Solutions. “This award is a testament to Honeywell’s unwavering commitment to innovation, a core value which we will continue to vigorously uphold and pursue in the years ahead.”
