Publication Cites Honeywell Innovation, Experion PKS as Key Factors in Selection
PHOENIX, Aug. 2, 2005 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has been named one of START magazine’s Hottest Companies, an award recognizing companies that improve manufacturing processes through unique and reliable technology solutions. This marks the third year in a row that START singled out Honeywell for its next-generation process automation system, Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS).
“Honeywell’s Experion technology is renowned among the process industries for helping manufacturers maximize their resources,” said Peggy Smedley, editorial director of START magazine. “This year, Honeywell introduced several new products under the Experion umbrella that reflect the company’s best efforts to create even more sustainable value for its customers. Honeywell technology raises the bar on innovation for automation suppliers everywhere.”
“This honor from START magazine confirms Honeywell’s commitment to delivering value to process manufacturers in every industry,” said Jack Bolick, Honeywell Process Solutions president. “As long as our customers ask for help in improving their business performance, we will continue to search for new and better ways to give them exactly what they want.”
Several Honeywell products stood out this year for improving process manufacturers’ business performance. For example, Experion R300 was introduced in April and offers even better technology, delivery and life cycle support, as well as a new space-efficient design. R300 can reduce total installed hardware costs by 10-15 percent and offers improved reliability and availability.
Asset Manager™ R310, a component of Experion, analyzes data points and identifies symptoms and faults. The product was developed in conjunction with Honeywell PKS Advantage™ Program partners, which brings together process automation suppliers to develop integrated asset solutions. The companies’ joint product can help customers save between $500,000 and $4 million during the first year of a full-scale implementation.
Honeywell also acquired the intellectual property of the HYSYS modeling software and the Operator Training Simulation (OTS) business from Aspen Technology Inc. The acquired technologies extend Experion’s capabilities by improving its ability to gather data throughout a plant and couple it with domain knowledge embedded in HYSYS models and Honeywell’s Advanced Solutions portfolio.
Thanks to this acquisition, Honeywell launched its UniSim™ simulation solution, a program that allows oil and gas processors, petroleum refiners and power and chemical manufacturers to more easily capture and share process knowledge, improve plant profitability, reduce engineering costs and maximize returns on investments.
The START Hottest Companies Award recognizes software and hardware vendors that have developed innovative applications or products for the manufacturing industry. Nominees were asked to describe their essential product or service, provide their growth record for the last three years, explain how their product or service was unique and pinpoint reasons they were “hotter” than their competitors.
