Industrial Boiler Control: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does Honeywell’s Boiler Control system include?
A: Honeywell offers a complete, end-to-end process control system that starts with the fuel supply, and extends to the burner safety system, turbine control system, and flue gas clean-up system. The basic control system functions include header pressure control, combustion control, furnace pressure control, feed water/drum level control, and superheat control.

Q: Does the system support regulatory agency requirements?
A: Yes. The system will meet NFPA and other regulatory requirements.

Q: What platform is used for the boiler control system?
A: The platform is the Experion system, which includes the proven, secure and reliable Fault-Tolerant Ethernet network.

Q: Does this system have a separate user interface?
A: No. A boiler control system is an integral part of Experion. This eliminates the need for a separate operator interface.

Q: Are there any optional functions offered with this system?
A: Yes. Honeywell offers advanced control functions that are designed to work with modern technology and offer more advanced control algorithms and control strategies. These include:

  • Advanced Combustion Control (ACC), for state-of-the-art control of the combustion process; delivers optimal efficiency and coordination of fuel flow and air channels.
  • Economic Load Allocation (ELA-B), which optimizes the distribution of steam load across multiple boilers supplying steam to a common header.
  • Master Pressure Controller (MPC), which safeguards stable steam production while maintaining the steam header pressure at the required level.

(Note: the above advanced applications are offered as part of Honeywell’s Unified Energy Solution.)
