As many OEM-supplied turbine governors age, obtaining parts for repair is difficult if not impossible, and personnel with repair expertise are scarce. To respond to these evolving demands, Honeywell has teamed up with Wood Group Turbine Control Services, Inc. to address the retrofit needs for both main steam turbines and auxiliary steam turbines. Together, Honeywell/Wood Group provides a full complement of digital controls and mechanical-hydraulic modifications needed to modernize the turbine governors installed in power generation facilities.
The digital turbine control system design takes advantage of the latest in digital technology and allows for a comprehensive replacement that provides increased functionality in a compact package. The solution uses the Experion™ Station with its flat panel displays as an efficient, easy-to-use operations tool. The control functionality is distributed between the Experion C200 process controller and a fast digital speed controller.
This solution is modular to accommodate different turbine configurations ranging from small steam turbines driving pumps or fans, up to the largest main steam turbines driving the electrical generator in a typical fossil-fired utility generating unit. Digital Turbine Control is offered on Honeywell’s revolutionary Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) platform.
