Polyolefins Transition Management: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between automatic, semi-automatic and manual settings?
A: The three settings offer the most flexibility for managing transitions and allow the plant manager to determine the level of operator interaction needed for that particular process.

  • Automatic: The automatic setting sends set points to the APC controllers and manipulates automated valves.
  • Semi-Automatic: The semi-automatic setting requests changes to the operator and waits for operator confirmation.
  • Manual: The manual setting has more operator interaction where it sends instructions and requests of the operator on a step-by-step basis.

Q: What platform is required for Transition Management?
A: Transition Management receives instructions from the Integrated Polymer Production Solution (PPS). The PPS is a solution that works with Honeywell’s Experion platform.
